A backstage look at the public and private life of this timeless beauty, the show is a celebration of that charming dame who could dance before she could walk. Backwards In High Heels combines cherished standards with new original songs, a compelling play and stunning dance sequences to fashion a unique new way of story telling. Funny, moving, and a visual feast, the show broke box office records in its World Premiere production. CHRISTOPHER McGOVERN (Co-Creator/Book/Original Songs/Musical Arrangements) Writing credits include: "Let The Memories Begin" - featured song in the new Castle projection show at all the US Disney Parks, libretto and score for Lizzie Borden (Goodspeed – starring Christiane Noll, American Stage – starring two-time Tony nominee Alison Fraser, and Stoneham Theatre/Boston), Crash Club (w/Castellino & Whitefield), A Visit To Roswell, Music and Lyrics for Dr. Radio, Cagney (Florida Stage, Silver Palm Award winner, 2010 Carbonell Winner: "Best New Work"), The Ugly Duck (Promenade Theatre NYC and national tour), six childrens musicals for Stages Of Imagination (two National Parents Choice awards), Holiday For Hope (Bushnell Theatre, Hartford). His songs have been featured on solo CDs he produced, arranged and conducted for original Rent cast member Gilles Chiasson (Slow Down), and Tony nominees Rebecca Luker (Leaving Home), Susan Egan (Coffee House, Winter Tracks and Live), and Alison Fraser (Men In My Life). Original incidental music and dance arrangements: The Presidents w/Rich Little seen on PBS and on tour, Lion King (Disney Worldwide - Hong Kong) directed by Tony nominee Lynne Taylor Corbett, Aladdin (Tokyo Disney). He recently completed a sixty-city concert tour with Susan Egan including an appearance at Carnegie Hall, and has served as Musical Director and Pianist for many other artists in concert including: Tony winner Rupert Holmes, Liz Callaway, Amanda McBroom, Tovah Feldshuh, Jason Graae, Karen Mason, Roslyn Kind and Jay Rogers (Manhattan Bistro Award for their show Eat, Drink and Be Mary at the Metropolitan Room). He was also the Musical Supervisor and Dance Arranger for the recent national tour of Fame. Many World Premiere Off-Broadway credits as Musical Director, Arranger and Pianist including: Still Getting My Act Together starring Gretchen Cryer at the York (Musicals in Mufti), That’s Life (Outer Critics Circle nomination “Best Off Broadway Musical), The Jazz Singer, Sheba, Identical Twins, Breathe (American Opera Projects) and The Fishkin Touch (starring Mike Burstyn.) Recently he served as Musical Director for the workshops of new musicals by Nancy Ford & Gretchen Cryer (I’m Getting My Act Together) and Carol Hall (Best Little Whorehouse.) Favorite regional credits: Jolson At The Winter Garden (Riverside Theatre, starring Mike Burstyn), Cagney (composer/lyricist), Sisters Of Swing (Carbonell nomination), I Love A Piano, The Last Five Years, Spitfire Grill, Dream A Little Dream: The Nearly True Story of The Mamas & The Papas (Carbonell nomination), Some Kind Of Wonderful (Co-Creator, Silver Palm Award winner), Hair and Pajama Game at Arizona Theatre Company (both Arizona MAC Award winners: "Best Musical") and Larry in the LORT premiere of {title of show}, Beehive (Riverside Theatre), Joseph (starring William Katt), Another Summer (World Premiere starring Marni Nixon), World Goes Round, Little Shop, Tommy, Godspell, {title of show} many others. Mr. McGovern is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Temple University and lives in New York City. He is represented by Bruce Ostler at Bret Adams Ltd.

LYNNETTE BARKLEY (Co-creator/Director/Choreographer) is thrilled to be back at Florida Stage with the world premiere of Backwards in High Heels. You last saw her work as Director/choreographer on the previous season’s Sisters of Swing. Along with long-time collaborators J. Barry Lewis and Craig Ames, Lynnette conceived the popular musical revue Beguiled Again: The Songs Of Rogers and Hart, which has been seen in theatres from Long Beach to London. Florida audiences know her work as co-director / choreographer of Mr. Abbott: A Broadway Legacy (Carbonell Award, Best Choreography) and Puttin’ on the Ritz (Carbonells: Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Choreography). In the early years of Florida Stage, Lynnette directed Moonshadow, Golf with Alan Shepard, Vital Signs and The Voice of the Prarie. Back in New York, Lynnette assisted director, Tommy Tune on Broadway's My One and Only, directed Leave it to Jane, and choreographed Anything Cole, Gifts of the Magi, The Road to Hollywood. Off-Broadway. Besides directing and creating new works for Regional Theatre, Lynnette and business partner, Jeff Kalpak, produce both legitimate and business theatre through their Manhattan production and event design company,
Barkley Kalpak Associates.
